One of the most evocative meanings of the word Yoga is ‘union’.
Through the practices of yoga, we begin the journey towards the union of those aspects of the personality that are split and conflicted. As these tensions are resolved we are opened to an even greater possibility, that of true union where we realise the Oneness that underlies the appearance of separate embodied beings.

Quality time in nature, being present with what is, can be as effective as our formal yoga practice on the mat/cushion. There are so many benefits in this for all of us. If we can gift ourselves the time to be truly present with our surroundings it allows the restless mind to begin to settle. By being immersed in nature we can let go of our day to day troubles which if only for a short time can do us so much good. Our breathing will relax and deepen, and our heart soften. It’s meditation by another name and you don’t have to sit in any specific position! Most importantly it can stir the soul. It can ignite, or re-ignite, a sense of wonder and awe for life, and our place in it.
We live in a time when the illusion of separateness seems to be becoming more and more entrenched. By simply being with other living
things this sense of separateness seems to loosen. Something fundamental is recognised, or more accurately, felt within us.
During this long weekend we aim to spend as much time outdoors as possible immersing ourselves in the vibrant energy of early spring in
combination with asana (physical postures), chanting and meditation and other Ashram practices.
