Chanting the Bhagavad Gita - the Song of Consciousness

The Bhagavad Gita is not only a timeless source of profound teachings on Gyana, Bhakti and Karma Yogas, but it is also a Mantra Shastra, i.e. all of the verses of the Gita are mantras. This one day seminar will serve as an introduction for those interested in learning how to chant the Gita.

Tutor(s): Swami Krishnapremananda

Chanting the Gita verses is a potent sadhana (spiritual practice) in its own right and offers another way of bringing the energy of the Gita alive in our Awareness. Furthermore, as we become more familiar with some of the key Sanskrit words, the chanting of them reminds us of their deeper meaning.

This one-day seminar will include a basic introduction to chanting the Sanskrit vowels and main consonants, as well as focusing on Chapter 12 of the Gita – Bhakti Yoga. This is the shortest chapter of the 18 chapters and the most accessible for learning how to chant the Gita verses. Chapter 12 also includes the ‘amrita asthakam’ or ‘eight verses of nectar’ which describe 33 qualities or fruits of going deeper in understanding and wisdom.

The day is not designed to teach you Sanskrit or make you an expert in Gita chanting. Its purpose is simply to open a door into the Sanskrit and the Gita verses, give you the experience of chanting for yourself and give you the confidence to continue chanting the Gita you wish.
