The Journey Home - exploring the practices of the Vigyana Bhairava Tantra

This retreat draws on the simple yet profound teachings of the Vigyana Bhairava Tantra. This text comes to us from Kashmir Shaivism and is designed to help us open our hearts and minds to the One Reality underlying all of manifestation.

Tutor(s): Swami Nishchalananda and Swami Satyadaya

There is One Reality behind every person, every creature and everything. The practices of Yoga and Tantra, whilst having many other benefits in our day to day lives, are specifically designed to open us up to the possibility of realising this Reality.

In this course we will practise selected techniques from this sublime and yet practical text.  The very title of the text alludes to the possibility of deeper realisation through practice – Vigyana (Insight into) Bhairava (the nature of Reality) Tantra (through the practices contained within).

Though written 1000 years ago, its teachings can easily be applied to our life in the present era. Many of the practices use everyday situations and experiences that we can utilise so that our daily life becomes our practice and our life becomes an exciting, inspiring and exhilarating voyage of both inner and outer discovery.

Another reason for the appeal of the Vigyana Bhairava Tantra is that the text contains such a breadth of practice that no matter whether we are more inclined to Gyana Yoga (the Yoga of Reflection), Bhakti Yoga (the Yoga of the Heart), Dhyana Yoga (Meditation), Pranayama etc., we will always find practices that will have a profound resonance with us.

Throughout the 2 days Swamiji and Swami SatyaDaya will share and explore some of their favourite practices contained within the text with you so that you will have a number of practices that you can take with you into your daily life and practice.
