Tutor(s): Dr Hania Katarina Kramlund

The Ashram is happy to offer a Yoga Therapy course on the physiology and benefits of pranayama from a yogic and scientific perspective. As
yoga teachers, we are aware of the positive impact of pranayama practices on our mind, as well as a preparatory tool for meditation. Over the last few years, there has been extensive research on the breath and its impact on the autonomic nervous system, stress reduction, the heart variability, the health of the blood vessels, blood pressure and neurotransmitters. Worldwide, the use of drugs for depression, anxiety and sleep disorders, with their known side-effects, is steadily increasing. However, breathwork is free of charge and has no side-effects. Pranayama techniques are also excellent tools for connecting us with our conscious state of being.

During this course, we will deepen our understanding of lung anatomy, breathing physiology and yogic breathing. You will learn how to recognise and correct pathological breathing patterns. We will also explore the impact of inhalation and exhalation on the autonomic nervous system, as well as practising selected pranayama techniques, including the Wim Hof method, to optimise and expand our breathing capacity.

This course is specifically for yoga teachers and trainee yoga teachers, who would like to expand their teaching skills into yoga therapy. To ensure sufficient quality time of contact between student and teacher, the attendance will be restricted to 16 participants.
